A must-see collection of five world-class museums covering the size of five football fields: the Buffalo Bill Museum, Whitney Western Art Museum, Cody Firearms Museum, Draper Natural History Museum, and Plains Indian Museum, plus after-hours programs and experiences. Most visitors budget at least half a day, and many come back for a second.
When does the Cody Nite Rodeo run, and what should we expect?
Nightly, June 1 through August 31, at Stampede Park, one block from The Cody Hotel. Gates open at 7pm with the rodeo at 8pm, all seating general admission. Arrive early: kids can get photos, face painting from the rodeo clowns, and roping lessons, and there's a souvenir store. This is, after all, the rodeo capital of the world.
What is the Cody Stampede?
Cody's marquee rodeo tradition, running since 1919, with PRCA Stampede Rodeo performances June 30 through July 4 each year. It's a distinct event from the summer-long Cody Nite Rodeo, and Stampede week is the biggest lodging week of Cody's year; book far ahead.
What is Old Trail Town?
A rare collection of authentic 1890s frontier buildings and furnishings, one of Cody's most popular family destinations, and it sits directly across the street from The Cody Hotel. You'll walk through the real structures of the Frontier West, not replicas.
Is the Buffalo Bill Dam worth visiting?
Yes, and it's a quick one. The dam was the tallest in the world when completed in 1910, and visitors can walk across the top and look 280 feet straight down to the Shoshone River, with the visitor center covering the area's wildlife, geography, and construction story.
